Regine has been the Director of the Heinrich Böll Foundation office in Rio de Janeiro since January 2024. She is a political scientist with a Ph.D. from the Free University of Berlin (FU-Berlin). Her career spans three decades of experience in the Brazilian Amazon as an international collaborator and researcher, focusing on natural resource governance, organized crime, rural conflicts, social inclusion and exclusion, violence, land use change and biodiversity loss, climate change, and tipping points.
In addition to her academic work, Regine has always been engaged in interdisciplinary and intercultural training. These experiences with participatory learning dialogues, often paving the way to combat prejudices and avoid dead ends, align well with the Heinrich Böll Foundation's approach in Brazil towards democracy advocacy.
